DORMONT, PA – October 20, 2015 – The Dor-Stop restaurant, 1430 Potomac Ave. in Dormont, now has a new family at the helm. Justin and Jennifer Berger of Jefferson Hills, purchased the local diner, well-known for its made-from-scratch hotcakes. Prior owners, Bob and Vicki Lawhorne, will stay on for the transition before retiring.
“We are proud to continue the family-owned tradition of this long-time Pittsburgh diner,” said Justin Berger, who, along with his wife, will be hands-on at the Dor-Stop.

“Pittsburghers love diners and we’ll continue this legacy and hopefully pass it on to our children someday,” added Jennifer Berger, referring to the couple’s boys, Jeffrey, age 12, and Evan, age 10.
Named for its location near the Dormont “T” stop, the Dor-Stop opened in 1986. Serving breakfast and lunch every day, the local eatery quickly grew a reputation for a friendly atmosphere and homemade dishes crafted from secret family recipes.

“The genuine, fresh-made meals the Dor-Stop is known will remain unchanged,” Jennifer Berger continued. “We are working closely with the Lawhornes to learn those recipes. Our goal is to maintain these traditions and continue to give Pittsburgh what it wants – hotcakes worth waiting for!”

The recipes aren’t the only thing the Bergers are learning about – crowd control might also be a future skill as the Dor-Stop’s weekend crowds know to expect a line out the door.

“We appreciate those customers who are willing to wait in line outside for our hotcakes or stuffed French toast,” said Justin Berger. “This is a classic Pittsburgh diner – great food and great people; and we are honored to be a part of it, and grow what the Lawhornes started.”

The Dor-Stop has been featured on the Food Network’s popular series Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri. The Dor-Stop is open Sundays 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call 412.561.9320 or visit www.thedorstoprestaurant.com.
